Russefeiring – Norwegian high school graduation

blackpearl

Russefeiring is the Norwegian high school graduation tradition, where people drink for 3 weeks while wearing red or blue overalls, do crazy dares (such as have a five minute pole dance on a street light in a crowded place) and spend 10 000s of dollars on buses. The tradition was first started in Denmark where students finishing high school called themselves russ and marked this with partying and other rituals. The students split up in groups with their friends and buy either a bus or a van so they can drive around every night to all the parties and russ gatherings in Norway. Students spend up to $150,000 each to buy and decorate the buses.
